Saranda's restaurants run from fish tavernas and Italian pasta kitchens to Ksamil seafood rooms, lakeside mussels near Butrint, grills, brunch cafés and gelato counters.
Fish from the Ionian runs through most menus in Saranda, whatever the style. A family restaurant supplied by its own boats, raw bars, grilled octopus and sea bass appear in town and in Ksamil, and on the shore of Lake Butrint a mussel farm dating from 1998 runs its own restaurant. Traditional Albanian kitchens cook lakror, tavë kosi, byrek and spit-roasted meat, one of them halal, and Italian cooking accounts for a good share of the list, from Apulian orecchiette and Emilian fresh pasta to pizza by the metre and wood-fired Neapolitan bases.
Most of the listed places are in Saranda town, on Rruga Mitat Hoxha above the harbour, along the promenade and in the streets behind the boulevard, several with terraces over the bay. Ksamil keeps its own seafood restaurants, grills, brunch bistros and dessert counters on Rruga Riviera and the main road.
For the daytime, brunch cafés serve shakshuka, eggs Benedict and crêpes, coffee bars pair espresso with board games or a swimming pool, and dessert shops make rolled ice cream, gelato and waffles. Several kitchens run their own delivery.
