Its facade is built of large, roughly worked trapezoidal blocks, and the passage is roofed by a single stone slab resting on stone brackets, with the floor rising as it enters the city.

The threshold and door jambs still show the recesses for wooden doors and locking bars. A stretch of wall projecting 2 m forms a bastion about 20 m long, and the passage walls are set at an angle so that only a few attackers could get in at once. The gate survives in good condition, later taken into the medieval walls.
