Protected as a natural monument of 180 hectares from 1996, the spring became a natural park in January 2022, when the protected area was enlarged to 293.3 hectares. Oak and sycamore woodland surrounds it at the village of Muzinë, about 18 km from Saranda. The spring briefly dried up in the summer of 2004, and a wildfire damaged part of the site in 2017.
